EPCRA • Planning Districts or LEPCs are comprised of: • Elected Officials • Law Enforcement, Fire, Public Health & Emergency Management • Environmental, Transportation, & Hospital Representatives • Business Owners/Operators • Community Groups • Media • To plan for Hazardous Materials in the community • Create an Emergency Response Plan • Review the plan annually • Information regarding Chemicals in the community

Effectiveness • Each LEPC should create their own vision • Chemical safety in the community • Emergency Planning • Personal Preparedness • Effective and safe response • Chemical accident prevention • Community Awareness • Pima County Vision • Continue and improve Public Information and Awareness • Support Hazardous Materials Response Teams and other responders • Outreach for Pima County Businesses • Better support of LEPC Sub-committees and Activities • Maintain responsibilities and requirements in EPCRA and Arizona State Statutes

Tools • EPA’s Safety Performance Indicators Program • Measurable outcomes for industry, response, laws and the public • Review and revise the Community Emergency Response Plan • Exercise the plan • Training for responders • Outreach for local citizens • Continuous dialogue with industry, chemical plants, transportation • Risk reduction • Accident prevention • Regulation compliance

Pima County Activities • Working with responders • Support training programs • Specialized training • Training equipment • Conduct education seminars for transportation and industry • Provide information on accident prevention • Regulation compliance • Reduce the opportunity of chemical releases • Completed the County Emergency Response Plan • Many stakeholders provided information • Meets FEMA requirements for plans • Posted on our website • Exercise the plan • Planning has begun to conduct a Table-Top Exercise • To be conducted in April in 2013 • Validate the information in the plan

Pima County Activities • Community Awareness • “Town Hall” type seminars being planned for Pima County Communities • Provide an overview of the role of the LEPC • Provide the citizens information regarding chemicals in their community • Personal Preparedness for a chemical release • Provide an overview of the contents of the Emergency Response Plan • Conduct Public Quarterly Meetings • Second Wednesday: January, April, July & October • PUBLIC MEETINGS • Review the Emergency Response Plan • Presentations from business owners/operators • Plan to further help responders, businesses and the public
