  1. Review of the recommendations of POSIPOL workshop L. Rinolfi Wednesday 27th September 2006

  2. Target  e+ e+ capture and acceleration Challenges for all schemes Specific Common Target issues Capture systems (Magnets and RF) Remote handling Reliability Pre-Damping Ring acceptance Cost estimate …

  3. Recommendations Compton Undulator • 1) Publish a design of a Compton ring with chicane • Develop reliable power laser and increasing cavity finesse taking account polarization • Simulate stacking into DR • Experimental demonstration of fast stacking (KEK-ATF or DAFNE). • Use CTF3 to test head-on scheme • Crab angle crossing scheme • Try to relax parameters in the Compton ring increasing the duty cycle • Optimization on the energy of Compton photon • Experimental optimization of Compton source inside laser cavity at BNL-ATF • Comparison of single pass scheme and ring scheme • Experimental demonstration using optical cavity and storage ring. • Compare CO2, YAG and Fibers • Possible use of laser cavity for gamma-gamma collisions • Publish results from E-166 • Evaluate and publish the emittance degradation in the undulator (CLIC emittance constraints, dynamic vacuum issues, wake fileds, ion effects, spurious linac dispersion) • Evaluate the coupling of operation • Do technical demonstration of undulator (several meters) • Finalize the complete layout • Do systematic studies of the collimators • Describe the transition between the keep-alive source and the Main linac

  4. Common Recommendations for Compton and Undulator • Analyze systematic errors of polarization measurements • Compare yield and polarization for both cases • Remote handling in radioactive area • Compare heat load dynamics for the 3 schemes • Capture and transmission • Optimize pre and post selection of e+ • Evaluate cost estimate

  5. Progress Compton 1) Publish a design of a Compton ring with chicane by E. Bulyak / KIPT- Karhkov

  6. Progress Compton 1) Publish a design of a Compton ring with chicane by E. Bulyak / KIPT- Karhkov Summary: " The longitudinal low- insertion seems practical in the linear approximation. Validation of the idea demands numerical simulations with a real Compton scattering and synchrotron damping. Also the transversal motion should be considered."

  7. Progress Compton 12) Compare CO2, YAG and Fibers lasers A femtosecond laser chain using exclusively Ytterbium done by the end of the year by Y. Zaouter / CELIA Lab - Amplitude-Systems High power: a few watts (limited by pump power) Repetition rate: a few hundred kHz High energy: a few tens of microJoules per pulse with ultra-short pulses

  8. Progress Compton & Undulator 4) Compare heat load dynamics for the 3 schemes Average heat load in the target by T. Omori / KEK ILC target: Ti (Z=22) E (Photons) = 10 MeV Compton target: W (Z=74) E (Photons) = 30 MeV ILC target: Average heat load: 11 kW Compton target: Average heat load: 1.9 kW
