May Celebrations. May Day. The first day of May is known as May Day . It is the time of year when warmer weather returns after the winter and flowers and trees start to bloom again. It is said to be a time of love and romance. In some villages a girl is crowned as the May Queen.

  2. May Day The first day of May is known as May Day. It is the time of year when warmer weather returns after the winter and flowers and trees start to bloom again. It is said to be a time of love and romance. In some villages a girl is crowned as the May Queen.

  3. Morris Dancing Morris Dancing is an old English Tradition during the month of May. A long time ago it was very popular but now only a few groups take part.

  4. The Morris Dancers hold handkerchiefs in their hands, or sticks, and have bell-pads tied at their knees, which make a loud sound as they dance.

  5. Before 1500 every village had a Maypole. On 1st May every year the people decorated it with ribbons and danced around it.

  6. Today the tradition has mostly stopped. But a in few places children still dance around the May Pole.

  7. May Day Today These days the first Monday in May is a holiday for everyone. At St Vincent’s we have a May Procession. We carry a statue of Mary through the streets.....

  8. .....and crown her with flowers.
