DerStruwwelpeter • Popular German children’s book • Author = Heinrich Hoffmann • Written in 1845 • Includes 10 illustrated and rhymed stories, as well as a foreword (like an introduction) • Stories = mostly about children • Each story has a clear moral that demonstrates the disastrous consequences of misbehavior in an exaggerated way

  3. Struwwelpeter • Describes a boy who does not groom himself properly • Consequence = he is unpopular and an outcast

  4. Die Geschichte vombösen Friedrich • The Story of Bad Frederick • A violent boy terrorizes animals and people • Eventually he is bitten by a dog, who goes on to eat the boy’s dinner while he is bedridden
