  2. History John Hampton Randolph Planned and build the Nottoway Plantation for his family. It was completed in The Greek Revival home Stands at the foot of the Mississippi River in Whitecastle, LA. A forward Thinker for the times, John even included indoor plumbing and hot/cold running water.

  3. During the Civil War, John left to work another plantation in Texas with his slaves to Keep the family financially stable. They sent their two teenage daughters away for safety, as well. John’s wife, Emily Jane Liddell Randolph remained at Nottoway with their younger children and a few slaves. Emily was very courageous in protecting her home from the Union Army. When they attempted to siege her home, she Defended it with just a knife from her front porch.

  5. Directions and Visiting Information Directions from Baton Rouge: Take I-10 West, towards Lafayette. When on the Mississippi River Bridge, get in the middle lane. Take the very first exit off the bridge which is for the city of Plaquemine on LA 1 South. From this point, follow LA 1 South for eighteen miles to Nottoway. You will have passed through the towns of Brusly, Addis and Plaquemine. Nottoway is approximately seven miles past Plaquemine on the left side of LA 1. Directions from New Orleans: Take I-10 West towards Baton Rouge and get off on Exit 182 (Donaldsonville/Sunshine Bridge). Turn left on Highway 22, go approximately one half mile, then turn left onto Highway 70 heading for the Sunshine Bridge. After crossing the bridge, you must pay a 50 cent toll, then stay in the right hand lane. Go toward Donaldsonville, remembering to stay in the right hand lane. After leaving Donaldsonville, you will be headed on LA 1 North for about 12 miles when you will get to the town of White Castle. Two miles past White Castle, on the right hand side of the road is the entrance to Nottoway .
