Elementary Literacy Procedures Year 2 of the READ Act September 19, 2014
READ Plans Identified after two progress monitoring probes Written within the before deadline time period after the start of school
READ Plans for ESS Students Please note change • SRD Students that are also ESS Students will need a READ Plan and an IEP • ESS Students that qualify for the CoAlt and/or are working on extended evidence outcomes may have their READ Plan Goals embedded within the IEP
READ Plans for ESS StudentsPlease refer • The IEP is not meant to replace a student’s general education curriculum or services; rather, it supplements general education and allows the child to access and benefit from general education. • Placing general education interventions into the IEP means that a school district could be subjected to IDEA dispute resolution procedures and, potentially, to liability under IDEA for services that are not IDEA services.
Takeaways • New Literacy Plans will be written for Strategic (Tier II) Students only • READ Plans will be for Intensive (Tier III) Students. • ESS students will need a READ Plan and an IEP. • Collaboration between the general ed teacher and the ESS teacher
