  4. Goals • To Gain Skills which are Worthwhile • To Gain the Qualification Through Passing Exams

  5. There is a Known Scale to This • c 1400 Sections • c 20 Schedules • c 60 Relevant Tax Briefings • c 80 Cases • 8 Sets of Notes • 16 Case Studies • 3 Assignments • Question Packs • 1 / 3 Books

  6. The Importance of Groups • The capacity to talk to someone who understands your situation and can shed light on it is very important • Two / Three people working on something will produce a result superior to one on their own most of the time

  7. Assignments • Set aside 8 Hours over two days • Do it yourself – do all calculations • Then confer and get direction as to an area you might have missed – this will provide you with confidence that you are right about some things, and give you a chance to improve your process • Then finish it in the next four hours

  8. Ideal World • Read Book prior to Class • Read the notes prior to Class • Have your questions and examples done • Have your list of Sections / Items done • Attend the cases • Write up extra points from lectures • Confer with your group to ensure covered

  9. Idea of What I Started with

  10. What I ended Up With • 2 Little blue folders with important likely stuff • (so that you can look at your blue folders and lever arch material / books at the same time) • 4 organised large lever arch files by topic • Books tagged (but not tagged much) • Specific things in acts tagged

  11. There is nothing quite as scary as having a number of sections or entries in your notes that you aren’t sure of

  12. But its very reassuring to be walking in with a good knowledge of them

  13. Main Pitfalls TIME

  14. Main Pitfalls • Any time you have throughout the year use it • Assignments can take up as much time as you let them • Organisation is Key • Breadth of Knowledge is key – to maximise the easy marks

  16. Exam • Exam Architecture • What is being highlighted • Assignments Questions Etc • Organisation • Ruthless time to mark balance
