  1. SM&C WG Plenary CCSDS Spacecraft Monitoring & Control WG (SM&C) Workshop #17, Darmstadt (D), 16-19 Apr 2012 Mario Merri, ESA/ESOC, Chairman

  2. Progress to Date (vs Charter): GOAL 1 “to pave the way for the technical work that will be performed in the context of spacecraft monitoring and control. This will be done by defining the technology-independent framework to be used in future work. It is noted that this activity involves also the space segment and therefore requires close coordination with the SOIS. This will be done by initially producing a white book and to bring it to Green status” … basically, to produce the SM&C Green Book • DONE (issues 1, 2 and 3 published) SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  3. Progress to Date (vs Charter): GOAL 2 “to specify and produce the corresponding Blue/Magenta Books for the following initial set of services” • MO Reference Model (MB, ESA) • DONE • MO Common Object Model (BB, ESA) • Completed Agency Review 2: some major RIDs required significant reworking. The updated document will be finalised during this workshop and submitted for a new Agency Review • MO Message Abstraction Layer (BB, ESA) • Issue 1 published • Issue 2 updated to adapt to new COM and correct a few minor mistakes. Submitted to CESG for initiating pink sheet Agency Review • MO MAL Testing (YB, ESA) • DONE (need updates following MAL issue 2) • MO M&C Service (BB, ESA) • Updated to adapt to new COM: internal review before submission for Agency Review • MO Common Services (BB, ESA) • Needs to be adapted to new COM. This will be the next document tackled after M&C • MO Java Language API (MB, CNES) • Completed Agency Review 1: updated document delivered (including changes in MAL 2). Doc will be submitted for pubblication. • MO Space Packet Binding/Encoding (BB, CNES) • Under preparation by CNES • MO C++ Language API (MB, NASA) • Under preparation by NASA/JSC SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  4. Progress to Date (vs Charter): GOAL 3 • “to update the XTCE standard with the result of the public review together with the OMG • Done. OMG XTCE 1.1 published as BB in Nov 07 • OMG agreed to update to XTCE 1.2 to correct some errors (approved changes available in April). CCSDS pink sheets will be create in May and submitted for Agency Review • To update the XTCE Green Book from presentation format to actual book • Done • To produce the XTCE Magenta Book as recommended practice on how to tailor XTCE for a CCSDS-enabled mission.” • New book colours agreed: • Core GB (general XTCE semantics annotations): submitted to Tom Gannett for CESG approval • XTCE Tailoring guide: XTCE GovSat and ESA Tailoring Guide spreadsheets available. To be approved by OMG in April and made available on their Website in May (SANA?) SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  5. Progress to Date (vs Charter): GOAL 4 “to specify the other high level services identified in the Green Book” ON-HOLD, … but Call for Interest in Mission Planning Services Standardisation SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  6. Status of Schedule Agreed in Boulder with Updates of Oct 11 Late Late Late Late OK OK OK SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  7. Other Relevant Events • MO MAL and RM are now ISO standards! • Use of SM&C in prototypes • ESA + METERON • ESA OpsSat • New Numbering Scheme for MO Books • all tutorial/reference model books (GB and RM): 520.x • all generic framework books (MAL and COM): 521.x • all MO service books: 522.x (Common Services 522.0, M&C Service 522.1, ...) • all Language API books: 523.x (e.g. Java 523.1, C++ 523.2, ...) • all Technology binding books: 524.x • SM&C Videoclip • Selected soundtrack and narrator • Final version in production (maybe available before end of workshop) SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  10. Heads Up from CESG: new resource summary requirement coming (1) • CMC is revising the CCSDS Project approval process, to require resource estimation and commitment before a new project is approved. The Framework is being updated to prototype such a process. The resources will not be expressed in monetary terms, but in terms of engineering contribution to the work. If approved, then in the Framework the WG chair will be asked to document the resource commitments for each Project by providing the following information by participating Agency: • Book editors: which Agencies have committed the resources to edit the books to completion? • Prototypers: which Agencies have committed the resources to do the interoperability prototypes? • Technical Contributors: which Agencies have committed to support the necessary engineering and provide specification text for documents? • Technical Monitors: which Agencies have committed to watch and comment only, with no direct contribution to producing the document? • Note that existing approved projects will probably be required to document which agencies are already providing those functions. These data will eventually replace the currently ambiguous “Participation” field in the Framework. • Please confirm with your attendees during the Darmstadt meeting which level of participation each agency is providing for the projects being executed in the WG SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012

  11. Heads Up from CESG: new resource summary requirement coming (2) My proposal: I need Agency confirmation before end of meeting SM&C-WS#17, 16-19 Apr 2012
