  2. Who Are We SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE • One of the largest technical colleges in Georgia • Established July 2010, from the merger of: • Flint River Technical College (FRTC); and • Griffin Technical College (GTC) • Combined student population of over 6,500 credit students

Who Are We SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE • Serve the workforce and community needs of the over 500,000 citizens • Serve nine counties of the South Atlanta region including Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Taylor, and Upson counties • Serve an additional 3,500 students per quarter in Adult Education and Continuing Education programs • Offer nearly 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs to provide the trained workforce needed to help stimulate Georgia’s community and economic growth and development

Our Mission SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Southern Crescent Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is an institution of higher education that delivers relevant technical education at the associate degree, diploma, and certificate levels and workforce training programs via traditional and distance learning formats that promote lifelong learning and impact economic development in the west central Georgia region that spans south of Atlanta and north of Macon.

  11. Employment Documents SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Southern Crescent Technical College is a registered participant in the federal work authorization program commonly known as E-Verify. The College utilizes the program to verify employment eligibility of all individuals hired on or after July 1, 2007. The following are examples of the documents which must be collected: • Government Issued Identification (Drivers Licenses, Passport, etc.) • Social Security Card, Employment Authorization Card, Voters Registration Card, U.S Military card, Birth Certificate SCTC also collects the following documents: • Official College Transcripts • Copy of Licensures

Adjunct Faculty, LaboratoryAssistants and Part-Time Staff SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Submit a signed letter of authorization defining courses taught each term (Adjunct Faculty and Lab Assistants) Work up to 29 hours per week only Submit a “Standard Request” Form for Approval of Other Employment prior to working with another TCSG agency Must participate in Georgia Defined Contribution Plan May participate in Georgia United Credit Union May participate in Peach State Reserves Deferred Compensation

Adjunct Faculty, LaboratoryAssistants and Part-Time Staff SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE May be paid in the following manner: • Pay based upon hours worked • Monthly pay request must be submitted by 16th of each month • Late submission of pay request will be paid on next month pay cycle • Pay based upon lump sum of equal monthly payments (Adjunct Faculty only) Paid on the last business day of each month through direct deposit

  14. Getting Started... SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Visit www.team.georgia.gov to: • Enroll in Georgia Defined Contribution Plan • View and print out your paycheck stub • Review and update your personal information • Review your pay and compensation history • Update your direct deposit and other deduction or contribution information NOTE - If you change your direct deposit routing or account number, your check will be mailed for that month and direct deposited the following month.

Getting Started… SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE • State Accounting mails initial pay check to Human Resources on the last business day of each month • Paychecks may be picked up from Human Resources on the last business day of the month • Delay in receiving time sheets will result in a delay in processing your paycheck • Problems and/or questions regarding your pay check • Contact Vickie Brezee at vbrezee@sctech.edu or call 770-229-3074

Getting Started… SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE To log on to www.team.georgia.gov • Click on “View My Paycheck” • Type in your User ID and Password, if you already have them. if you do no have your User ID contact Human Resources. • Use your Social Security # for initial Password, then create new Password • Create new security questions if you have not done so • Click on “Employee Self Service” located on the left side of the screen

  17. College Communications SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE All information pertaining to the College will be provided via the SCTC.edu website and/or your @sctech.edu email!! SCTC does not utilize personal emails to communicate College business. Therefore, please check your @sctech.edu email accounts often.

  18. College Safety SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE All employees must wear college identification badges at all times. All employee vehicles must have a college decal clearly visible at all times.

  19. Performance Evaluations / Staff Development SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE SCTC annually reviews and rates the quality and quantity of work performed by all employees. Discussions of performance goals and improvements are also provided. Annual performance evaluations are usually held between May and June of each fiscal year between the employee and his/her immediate supervisor. Faculty members are also periodically evaluated, in part, through student evaluations. Staff development plans are also required.

  20. Positive Discipline SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Positive Discipline is designed and used to emphasize an employee’s responsibility and accountability for his/her own behavior and actions within the workplace. Positive Discipline addresses problems in such general areas as performance, conduct, behavior, attendance, and safety. Key aspects include recognizing and encouraging good performance, correcting performance problems through coaching and counseling, building commitment to high work standards and safe work practices.

  21. Positive Discipline SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE • Managers and/or Supervisors are responsible for communicating college rules, practices, and expectations consistently. • This policy is not to be considered an explicit or implied contract between the College and any employee or group of employees. • The College reserves the right to adapt, modify, or abandon this policy at any time for any reason, with or without advance notice to any employee.

  22. Hurt on the job?? SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Immediately report any injuries incurred on the job: • To your supervisor • To the Campus Police • To the Human Resources Office • Follow procedures provided in the new hire documents • You will need to fill out a report • You will be asked for the names of any witnesses to your injury In an emergency with serious injuries, seek treatment first!!!!

Student Illness or Injury SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE If a student becomes ill or is injured in your presence/ under your supervision: For life threatening emergency: • Call 9-911 directly to seek emergency medical assistance or • Call Thomaston Campus Police 706-646-6801 • Call Griffin Campus Police 770-883-6032 or 770-229-3370 Remain with student until assistance arrives.

  24. Student Illness or Injury SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE After the student receives medical attention: Prepare an Accident Report Send accident report to Business Office (Griffin Campus) or fax to 770-233-6116. Include as much detail as possible, including names of all witnesses. Student Activity Fee provides insurance coverage for medical attention required due to injuries or sudden illness requiring emergency response which occurs while student is engaged in College activities. Refer student to Business Office as soon as possible to file insurance claim.

  26. Campus Conduct SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Faculty and staff shall maintain a professional appearance, while representing SCTC, whether on or off campus. We encourage students to dress in a manner acceptable in the workplace they hope to enter upon graduation. Please help them understand what is appropriate!

  28. Campus Conduct SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Political Activities Federal and State laws place certain restrictions on political activities of employees. An employee who wishes to engage in political activity, other than to express his/her opinion privately and to vote, should review the laws and rules of the state. Fund Raising/Raffles Students and student clubs may sell items at SCTC for the purpose of raising money provided they have submitted a prior request and received approval from the Vice President of Student Affairs or his/her designee. The soliciting of funds by employees and/or the conducting of a raffle is prohibited unless approved by the President.

  29. Campus ConductHarassment SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated! • One person’s kidding -- is another person’s harassment. • Faculty, staff and students are expected to conduct themselves in ways that cannot be misinterpreted as harassment. If you observe or experience harassment: • Put a stop to it, if you can!! • If you need assistance, report it to your supervisor, vice president or human resources.

Campus ConductWorkplace Violence Policy SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Southern Crescent Technical College is committed to providing all employees, students, volunteers, visitors, vendors and contractors a safe and secure workplace and/or academic setting free of intimidating, threatening, or violent behavior. Any violent act or threatening or disruptive behavior, language, or communication in any form including telephone, facsimile, electronic mail or written communication shall not be tolerated.

  31. Campus ConductWorkplace Violence SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Any one who believes that he/she has been subject to workplace violence should report the matter to your division vice president or human resources. Any one who violates this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

  32. Campus ConductFood/Beverages SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE No food or drink is allowed in classrooms, laboratories, or the library.

  33. Campus ConductMaintaining Classes SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Faculty members must maintain their classes on the scheduled days and for the scheduled amount of time each session. If an emergency causes you to be late or absent and you cannot reach your department chair, contact the “ON CALL” Dean or your Dean for Academic Affairs

Campus ConductStudent Privacy SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects privacy of education records: • NO education records will be released to anyone, except certain organizations stipulated by FERPA, without the written consent of student • Safeguard student social security numbers • Do NOT give out student contact information • Student directory information can be released without consent • Inquiries should be referred to the Registrar’s Office

  35. Campus ConductE-mail and Internet use SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE All information created, stored or transmitted by Southern Crescent Technical College computers or networks is subject to monitoring for compliance with applicable laws and policies. Specifically prohibited: using email or the internet for personal commercial activities, using email or the internet to access or send obscene material, using email or the internet in any abusive or destructive activity.

  36. Campus Safety and Security Information SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE Locate in advance the nearest: • First Aid Kit • Fire Alarm • Fire Extinguisher Become familiar with resources and procedures: • Campus Security • Postings in classrooms and hallways • Emergency Procedures and Evacuation Routes • Fire • Tornado • Emergency Procedures Plan ahead for assisting students with limited mobility during an evacuation

  37. Severe Inclement Weather/School Closing SOUTHERN CRESCENT TECHNCAL COLLEGE The President or his designee may allow for a College closure if severe weather conditions exist. If weather conditions are sufficiently severe to warrant a College closing, late opening, or early closing of the College, employees directly affected by such conditions will be excused from duty without loss of pay or use of leave. Employees on a regular day off or otherwise not affected when their office or work place is closed because of severe weather conditions will not receive additional time off or other considerations because of closing.

  38.
