This document outlines the TMC Forum's activities and developments as of May 11, 2005, under James Burgess's coordination. It discusses the expansion of TMC services across Europe and the U.S., focusing on public and commercial service integration for enhanced traffic modeling and information gathering. Key initiatives include collaboration with the TPEG Forum, establishing task forces for urban traffic information, service harmonization, and the implementation of user-friendly interface icons. The report concludes with recommendations for eSafety RTTI and endorses further cooperation among national authorities for TMC service implementation.

TMC Forum - Introduction • New members from within and outside Europe • Significant new activities • Collaboration with newly formed TPEG Forum for development of future RTTI systems
Road Traffic Information Group • New joint working group set up by TMC Forum and TPEG Forum • Aims to ensure a smooth development of next-generation traffic information systems and services • Looks at developments both within TMC and beyond • Addresses specific requirements such as travel time and location referencing
Urban Task Force • Establishing requirements for TMC and beyond • Best support of TMC for urban traffic information • Identification of further features to optimise support in future RTTI systems
Icon Task Force • Objective: to improve the perceived quality of TMC services, through an agreed use of Icons on the displays of GUI equipped TMC-enabled terminals • Recommended icon set for the graphical interface to the user • Guidelines harmonising which icons are associated with defined TMC messages.
New Features Task Force • Objective: to add features to enhance today’s TMC • ‘Backwards compatible’ additions which won’t cause obsolescence problems • Examples: • Tendencies of Traffic Queue Lengths • Precise Location Referencing • Coding of Motorway Link Roads
Other TMCF Activities (1) • Service Receiver Harmonisation • New Task Force to promote standardised implementation of TMC across services and receivers, improving predictability • Ongoing certification of location tables • Improved inspector tool now available to creators of location tables across Europe • Free of charge for creators of public location tables • Robust certification process
Other TMCF Activities (2) • New website: • More information for the general public including service details and availability • Improved private section for Forum members • Industry and customer-relevant news
Other TMCF Activities (3) • Conditional Access administration: • Granting permission and information to provide encrypted CA TMC services using the standard defined
Next Steps • Further New Feature definition and specification • Upcoming Road Traffic Information Group focus topics e.g. Bearers & Bandwidth, Urban Service, HMI • Further cooperation with TPEG Forum / other related groups • Promotion/support of TMC implementation in further countries
RTTI Recommendations • The TMC Forum and Road Traffic Information Group objectives support the eSafety RTTI WG recommendations, e.g. service features, interoperability and coverage • If further National Authorities are encouraged to implement TMC then the TMC Forum can support them in this task
Thank You James Burgess, TMC Forum Coordinator 11 May 2005
