Bamidbar/Numbers 16:1-18 :32 “The Rebellion” Korach (Bald)
Korah’s Plan • The rebellion of Korah also included two men named Dathan and Abiram • Also 250 men from the tribes of Reuben and Levi. • Korah said that Moses thought he was more important than anyone else.
Korah Challenges Moses • Korah gave Moses a very hard time in front of many people. • Korah said that all the people are holy, HaShem is in their midst • Moses becomes very sad and shocked by Korah’srebellious words against him. Lashon HaRa - “Evil Tongue.”
Moses’ Response • Moses fell to the ground to pray for the people. • Moses challenged Korah and his followers. • Moses asked them to bring their incense and HaShem would judge.
At the Mishkan • The next day everyone gathered at the Mishkan. • Moses said, “If these men die a natural death it was not God who sent me to be the leader.” • The earth opened up and swallowed up all Korah’s people along with all their households and possessions.
Israel is Shocked • The Jewish people were shocked. • They blamed Moses, not Korah. • Moses and Aaron asked the LORD to forgive the people.
God Punishes the People • God was very angry and wanted to destroy the Jewish people. • God sent a plague to kill 14,700 people who supported Korah’s rebellion. • God punished the followers of Korah’srebellion. • Korah’s sons followed Moses and were not killed
#1 – Don’t Rebel Against Spiritual Authority • God gives us leaders to guide us and help us to follow God. • Often, when people get mad, they talk about their leaders behind their back. • Remember to stay under the protection of authority God places over you. Memory Activity time
#2 – Our Response To People Who Treat Us Badly • It is very easy to get mad. • It is also easy for us to want to hurt people who treat us badly. • Moses did not do this. • His response was to pray to the LORD and let the LORD work things out.
#3 - Choices & Consequences • The people around us can help us to do good or bad. • When we make a choice, there is a consequence that goes along with it. • Be careful to make a good choice, because good choices will result in good consequences.
