  2. JAPANESE MILITARISM- Hirohito 1926-1989 A military dictatorship took control of the Japanese government, with the guarantee that they could solve the problems plaguing the Japanese economy.

MILITARISTIC JAPAN • 1920’S- Japan was a democracy. • They feared the influence of European powers in Asia. • They believed in a pan-Asiatic movement. • Their economy was stagnant and resources had become scarce and expensive. • Western nations began protectionist trade practices to defend their own economies.

  4. MILITARISTIC JAPAN How will Japan remedy this situation? • They will build an empire for themselves. • Resources and raw materials exist in nearby Manchuria, China. • Although the democratic government recommended against such action, the military attacked Manchuria. • The democracy now fell under the control of the military.
