  2. Introduction • One Tree Hill is a high school teen drama, that includes two half-brothers that were separated at birth. The boys deal with the struggles of high school, girlfriends, basketball and their ego-maniac father. Trying to compete for first place all the time, these two brothers run into trouble. • The series started in September of 2003 and has 9 seasons. The 9th and final season, was last April 4th 2012. • The main characters include, Lucas Scott, Nathan Scott, Haley James, Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis. • The point of the popular television series is to show young teens the “average” life of a teenager.

  3. Setting • The show takes place in a fictional town called Tree Hill, located in North Carolina. • Majority of the scenes take place at Tree Hill High school, the River court, and Brooke and Haley’s apartment. • The setting of the series is important because it is displaying a typical area where teenagers would just hang out with friends, play basketball or go to school. • The atmosphere in One Tree Hill is always filled with drama. Something is always going wrong. The characters always have to have some type of conflict going on.

  4. Lucas Scott • In the show, Lucas hangs out with his life long best friend, Haley. • Lucas’ rival is his half-brother Nathan, until they start to become close. • His character is popular with young teens and adults. • Lucas has to balance his hectic life with his father, Dan Scott, and his love triangle with Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer. • The role he plays is the sweet, romantic guy with lots of passion. • Lucas also loves to read and write passionate poems and stories.

  5. Nathan Scott • Younger half-brother to Lucas Scott. • Fell in love with Lucas’ best friend, Haley James. • Nathan really likes basketball because of his father. • Vows to torment Lucas when he joins the basketball team and goes after Haley, accidentally falling in love with her. • Antagonist of the television series until his relationship with Haley blossomed into a marriage, and he became close friends with Lucas. • Has a child with Haley in season 4 and later in season 8. • Nathan doesn’t have the best relationship with his father because of the years that Dan pushed him very hard. • Seemed as if Dan only loved him because he could play basketball and get a scout to watch over him.

  6. Haley James-Scott • Best friend to Lucas Scott. • Marries Nathan Scott in season 1. • Haley is a smart teenager and most people refer to her as “tutor girl” because she tutored a lot of teenagers in season 1. • Struggling with popularity, things escalated for her when she married Nathan. • Became best friends with Brooke Davis in later seasons and made Brooke, Jamie’s god mother. • Went on tour with popular artists of 2004 because of her music career. • Haley has a very close relationship to Lucas’ mother, Karen. • Had her first job as a waitress at Karen’s Café. • Haley is known for her cautious ways, her talent for teaching students and her extreme love and talent for music.

  7. Teen Issues • The show One Tree Hill relates to problems teenagers have. Anything from relationships, to what to wear for school. • Some issues in the show are drug abuse, alcohol, sex, marriage, adoption, affairs, and internal conflict. • The issue of having a single mother and having a father leave. • Conflict of having a half-brother. • Dealing and coping with changes in family or in life. • One Tree Hill shows the challenges of having love and being in love.

  8. Viewers • One Tree Hill was a very popular television series because of the teen issues it dealt with every episode. I believe this show is popular because of the scenarios that it deals with. The relationship and the thoughts are those of teenagers and for some of us, this is very relatable. • In season one, there was 3.5 million viewers. • In season two, there was 4.3 million viewers. • In season three, there was 2.8 million viewers. • In season four, there was 2.9 million viewers. • In season five, there was 3.3 million viewers. • In season six, there was 2.8 million viewers. • In season seven, there was 2.3 million viewers. • In season eight, there was 1.8 million viewers. • In season nine, there was 1.855 million viewers.

  9. Comparison • One Tree Hill is a very relatable show but because most people compare it to the OC, it has very low reviews. • One Tree Hill deals with real teen issues that might be occurring and this makes the show relevant and down-to-earth for viewers. • The OC’s main focus is in a wealthy and rich environment while One Tree Hill is very diverse. • In comparison to The OC, the characters in One Tree Hill are more relaxed and focus on moral issues. • Even though the views for One Tree Hill aren’t that high, their audience is very loyal.
