New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application Process A Student’s Experience & ISIR Selection
To remove a school, check the box and click on “Delete” then select “Next.” Review of Prefilled College Data From FAFSA (or ISIR record if ATOTW is used)
College Search To add a school enter College Name and Level of Study, then click on “Search.” All matches to search request will appear in the table. Select school you will be attending
Select College Terms Check box for term you will be attending the selected school, then select “Next.”
Personal Information from FAFSA Left navigation tracks progress through application Used for Independence determination.
Parental Income Information Income from local, State and Federal pensions and private annuities are required
Student/Spouse Income Information Income from local, State and Federal pensions and private annuities are required
Application Summary Select “Modify Your Answer” to change any reported information
ISIR Selection ISIR record selected for NYS processing when these conditions are met: • A nine digit numeric entry in the student’s current Social Security number • Citizenship status not blank or not 3, or citizenship status is blank and student’s assumed citizenship is not blank • Primary EFC is shown • ISIR record shows a SSN match equal to 2,3, or 4 • Student’s last name is not blank
ISIR Selection • Student’s Permanent City is not blank • Student’s Permanent State is not blank • Student’s State of Legal Residence equals NY • College code equals a NYS school (found on the HESC college table) • An ETA or completed APP has not previously been created for the same student for the same year determined by a match on SSN
Express TAP Application (ETA) ETA printed only upon request by student or school • Student can call HESC or request online • School can request ETA to be sent using Request TAP Form task • Schools will continue to have on-site print function under Reports/Standard Reports
Award Notification Eligible Students • Emailed link to view award on HESCWeb • No email: sent postcard with instructions for HESCWeb Ineligible Students • Emailed link to view denial on HESCWeb • No email: sent a paper Change Form • All students can complete the Electronic Change Form
Request for Information Students with missing information • Emailed link to complete on-line Request for Information (RFI) • No email: sent a postcard directing the student to HESC.ny.gov • Review information displayed and make any necessary changes • Students must provide data where “???” are indicated
