Guiding Principles • Develop a “Data Integrity Strategy” • Goals, Timeline, Vendors, Resources • Metrics Driven – “You can’t manage what you don’t measure” • Data received, turnaround, baselines, returns, etc. • Self-reported data trumps all
Data Sources • Share best practices and challenges with internal partners • Multiple sources on a college campus (Registrar, IT, Departments, Student Affairs, etc.) • Work with partners to change their upstream practices • Share your successes with your partners
Goals and Metrics • Set SMART goals (individually and team based) • Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely • Raise the bar annually • Find new challenges • Measure inputs and outputs • Develop shared ownership
Vendor Management • Use a multi-vendor approach • Find a vendor’s point of differentiation • Corporate Data, Email, Phone, Address, Matching Gift, Marriages, Deaths, etc. • Assess vendors qualitatively and quantitatively • Send test files to measure results
