    2. Why we chose our topic MAP test scores have been low in figurative language for many years Wanted to make ourselves aware when we were teaching Wanted to focus on meaning of examples, not just the kind of figurative language being used

Action Research Initial Data Effect Data: Increase in students knowledge and understanding of figurative language 50% of fourth graders at 70% proficiency by Nov. 20th 60% proficient by Jan. 25th 70% proficient on the MAP test Cause Data: Model each type of figurative language two times per theme focusing on meaning. Results Indicators: Record number of times specific feedback is given to students Increase in quiz/ assessment scores Ability to locate and explain figurative language found in text with less prompting and modeling Students will gain more independence on projects and class work
