  1. Thank you for keeping the atmosphere of QUIET & PRAYERFULNESS in the Church.

  2. The Way of the Cross

  3. Opening • In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen.

  4. Opening Prayer Introduction

  5. FIRST STATION Jesus is condemned to death

  6. “Pilate said to them, Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” All of them said, “Let him be crucified!” Then he asked, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!” So he released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.” Matthew 27:22-23,26

  7. SECOND STATION Jesus takes up His Cross

  8. “Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole cohort around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.  After mocking him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.” Matthew. 27:27-31

  9. THIRD STATION Jesus falls for the first time

  10. “Surely he has born our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah. 53:4-6

  11. FOURTH STATION Jesus meets His Mother

  12. “Simon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: “Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed”. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.” Luke. 2:34-35,51

  13. FIFTH STATION The Cyrenian helps Jesus to carry the Cross

  14. “As they went out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; this man they compelled to carry his cross.” “Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew. 27:32; 16:24

  15. SIXTH STATION Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

  16. “He had no form or comeliness that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” Isaiah. 53:2-3

  17. SEVENTH STATION Jesus falls for the second time

  18. “You are righteous, O Lord, when I complain to you.Yet I would plead my case before you.Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?” Jeremiah 12:1

  19. EIGHTH STATION Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem who weep for him

  20. “A great number of people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him. But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed!’ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” Luke. 23:27-29,31

  21. NINTH STATION Jesus falls for the third time

  22. “Are you not from of old, O Lord,my God, my Holy One? Your eyes are too pure to behold evil, and you cannot look on wrongdoing; why do you look on the treacherous, and are silent when the wicked swallow those more righteous than they?” “Write the vision, make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.” Habakkuk 1:12-13; 2:2-3

  23. TENTH STATION Jesus is stripped of His garments

  24. When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic.  But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another: “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be”. This was to fulfil the Scripture: “They parted my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots”. John. 19:23-24

  25. ELEVENTH STATION Jesus is nailed to the Cross

  26. “And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus the King of the Jews”. Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right hand and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the Cross”. So also the chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the Cross and we will believe in him”. Matthew 27:37-42

  27. TWELFTH STATION Jesus dies on the Cross

  28. “Pilate also wrote a title and put it on the Cross; it read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews”. Many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.” John 19:19-20

  29. “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” That is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Elijah”. And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him”. And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit”. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe, and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”” Matthew 27:45-50,54

  30. THIRTEENTH STATION Jesus is taken down from the cross and given to his Mother

  31. “There were also many women there, looking on from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him. When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus.  He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.  Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them: “The Son of man is to be delivered  into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day”. And they were greatly distressed.” Matthew 27:55, 57-58; 17:22-2

  32. FOURTEENTH STATION Jesus is laid in the Tomb

  33. “Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulchre.” Matthew 27:59-61

  34. “My heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;my body also rests secure. For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay. You show me the path of life;in your presence there is fullness of joy,in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.” Psalm 16:9-11
