Reactions of Aldehydes: Reductions, Additions, and Oxidations

This study explores the diverse reactions of aldehydes, including reductions with lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH4) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) in ether and aqueous environments, respectively. It examines nucleophilic addition reactions such as those involving hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and sodium bisulfite (NaHSO3), followed by HCN. Additionally, the oxidation of aldehydes is tested using acidified potassium permanganate (K2MnO4) and potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7). Finally, the addition-elimination processes with amino groups and chlorination of alkyl groups using Cl2 in organic solvents are discussed.
