This document provides an update on the current status of T11.5 projects, including a retrospective on INCITS and the cooperative strategy with IMSS. It details the formation of significant committees, including T10, T11, and T13, and highlights the importance of these groups in defining widely-used storage peripheral interfaces over the last two decades. Additionally, the status of various Managed Information Base (MIB) projects approved in T11.5, including the Name Server MIB and the Domain Manager MIB, is discussed, along with upcoming submission targets for IETF standards.

Topics • Reprise of INCITS, T11 & Cooperative Strategy • Status of MIB Projects in T11.5
INCITS • International Committee for Information Technology Standardization • Called X3 for many years up to 1998 • Had to change because of “web search problem” • Holds the US TAG for several key ISO groups • See www.incits.org for details
Storage Interface Committees • First formed pre-1977 • Splits occurred in 1982 & 1995 • The committee names all changed in 1993 as well • Now 3 active groups – T10, T11, T13 • See http://www.t11.org etc. • Nearly all widely-used storage peripheral interfaces for last 20 years defined by these committees
Cooperative Strategy • Intend is to coordinate activities between INCITS & IMSS to: • Ensure timeliness wrt other work • Follow latest IETF directions, take advantage of expertise • T11.5 has approved a process for this: • Run an internal project as usual, including Letter Ballot, on a draft MIB • When all issues that can be resolved are done, transfer change control to IMSS
Project Status • First two MIB projects approved in T11.5 in December 2003 • Name Server MIB • Domain Manager MIB (decided to change name to Fabric Address Manager MIB is better mesh with other T11 projects) • See http://www.t11.org/t11/stat.nsf/tg5 for full details of the management group
Project Status • T11 takes “formal” online ballots on “drafts” as part of approval process • Ballots closed 6/03/2004 • Domain Manager MIB (called SM-FAM) Y38-N02-A12-DNV03 (1 yes ballots included comments) – 99 comments total • Name Server MIB (called SM-NSM) Y38-N02-A12-DNV03 (3 yes ballots included comments) – 86 comments total • See http://www.t11.org/t11/vote.nsf/xbals for full details
Project Status • T11.5 hoped to have comment resolution completed in time to submit completed internet-drafts for this meeting • Apologies for the fact that this didn’t happen • Group met twice in July, is meeting later this week in Colorado, and again in October • Target is to submit for November IETF
Project Status • Also approved two new projects • Routing Information MIB (called SM-RTM) • Fibre Shortest Path First (FSPF, called SM-FSM) • Target is to pass completed drafts to imss @ 62nd IETF (March 2005)
