  2. COBRA • Measure atmospheric CO2 concentration to estimate regional carbon balance • Fly with BARCA (Balanço Regional de Carbono na Amazônia) • Brazilian Lear jet (LIDER) w/ modified door • November 2004 and May 2005 (?)

  3. AVIRIS • Hyperspectral imaging spectrometer used by LBA-ECO and INPE teams • Hyperion satellite hyperspectral images (>50 to date) are high quality and will allow 10-20% of original objectives to be met • Brazilian Air Force aircraft • C130 • SIVAM Cessna Caravan • Commercial aircraft would require expensive modification • AISA+ commercial hyperspectral sensor (Indiana) • 6 weeks after July 2004 on INPE Bandeirante

  4. LVIS • Lidar to map ground and canopy topography, canopy structure, and above ground biomass • No satellite alternatives • FAB C130 • FAB Learjet • LIDER Learjet (same on as BARCA) • INPE Bandeirante • Max cost benefit: mapping effort over areas with most well quantified AGB

  5. Approval Needed! • Agreement options are being studied and coordinated with NASA HQ and Brazilian MCT
