Why Develop a Lifestyle Survey Toolkit? • The South East Public Health Observatory is taking a national lead on how Public Health Observatories can support local agencies in implementing the coronary heart disease National Service Framework. • A consultation exercise with key stakeholders in the South East Region highlighted the need for SEPHO to support local health, social care and other local organisations to carry out or commission lifestyle surveys. • The development of an electronic toolkit will provide essential information, advice and methods for carrying out lifestyle surveys.

Objectives of the Lifestyle Survey Toolkit • To develop an electronic toolkit containing information and methodologies to assist those conducting/commissioning lifestyle surveys. • For use by those at primary care trust/group, local authority, strategic health authority or regional government office level. • Develop an electronic archive of lifestyle surveys conducted and questions used. • Guidance on selecting survey sample size. • Guidance on how to obtain Ethics Committee approval prior to carrying out a lifestyle survey. • Guidance on survey research methods
