  2. The verb gustar means “to like” in English. Literally it means “ to be pleasing to”

  3. The forms of gustar • (A mí) me gusta – I like • (A ti) te gusta – you(familiar) like • A él le gusta – he likes • A ella le gusta – she likes • A Usted(Ud.) le gusta – you (polite) like

  4. A mí and A ti are used for emphasis but do not have to be in the sentence. • You must use a clarifying phrase starting with a + él, ella, Usted(Ud.) or a name. A él le gusta la pizza. – He likes pizza. A Leticia le gusta la pizza – Leticia likes pizza

  5. 3. To express dislikes put “no” before me, te or le. A míno me gusta el fútbol. – I don’t like soccer. A Carlos no le gusta el Jazz. – Carlos doesn’t like Jazz.

  6. Asking Questions With Gustar • ¿Quétegusta? – What do you(fam.) like? • Me gusta el béisbol. – I like baseball. ¿Tegusta el voleibol? – Do you(fam.) like volleyball? Sí, me gusta el voleibol. ¿A José le gusta la música? – Does José like music? No, a José no le gusta la música. – No, José doesn’t like music.
