MEA Apostille attestation in India is a process of legalizing documents for immigrating to Hague Convention member countries. Apostille attestation is mandatory for immigrating to any of the Hague Convention member countries. An apostille attested document for one country is accepted in all the other Hague member countries. It is done only for personal and educational documents. The apostille attestation procedure for Indian issued document is as follows: State attestation: The first stage in the certificate attestation process in India is to legalize documents from the state where it was issued. Based on the document types, i.e., personal, educational, and commercial documents, they are attested from the concerned departments. Educational documents are attested from the state HRD department (HRD attestation), personal documents are attested from the Notary (Notary attestation) and the state Home department while the commercial documents are attested from the state Chamber of Commerce (Chamber of Commerce attestation). MEA Apostille attestation: After the state attestation, the documents are attested by the Ministry of External Affairs [MEA attestation].
