  1. Should You Buy or Rent Skiing Gear One of Utah’s iconic license plates says, “Greatest snow on earth.” It’s no coincidence that a picture of a skier is included with that saying. Skiers from around the globe come to Utah to ski the slopes of its world-class resorts. Conversely, when you talk to the locals, many of them have never tried skiing. First-time skier or avid pro; one common question to have is should you buy or rent skiing gear in Park City? To help you answer that question, consider these four things. 1. Experience If you are new to skiing, it’s highly recommended that you rent skis and related gear. As a new skier, renting gives you the chance to familiarize yourself with skiing and decide whether or not you like it before making a costly investment. When you have gained significant experience and found skis that you are comfortable using, buying a pair becomes more practical. 2. Frequency Try as we might, it’s not always possible to hit the slopes every weekend. With that said, unless you make more than a few ski runs in a season, it’s probably best to rent equipment. If though, you can spend weeks at a time up at a resort, buying skis is the better option. 3. Traveling Owning your own skis comes with its perks. However, traveling with skis is rarely as easy as tossing them in the trunk of the car, especially if you are traveling from out of state or country. It may seem counter-intuitive to rent skis in Park City when you already own a pair; but, it can be cheaper than transporting your own and comes with a lot less hassle. 4. Variety When you walk into a ski rental shop, your choice of skis is only limited to what they have stock. Typically, that stock includes some of the latest and greatest ski models. On the other hand, buying your own pair of skis is an investment that you want to make the most of. Using the same gear all the time means you get to know all of its intricacies. Nonetheless, if you want to try a variety of skis, renting is the better option than buying new every season.

  2. You do not have to be the greatest skier on earth to enjoy the greatest snow on earth. You do however need a pair of skis. Whether you buy or rent is up to you but take time to consider the benefits of each option.
