Learning to Implement SVPDP Through Active Participation • Teachers learn to use interactive strategies through actively being involved in the training process. • Brainstorming, Cooperative Learning, Taking a stand and defending positions, using Bloom’s Taxonomy to move students from Basic Recall to taking what you know and Creating something new. • Concentrating on moving students toward higher levels of thinking.

Across the Curriculum LearningConnecting Literature and SVPDP Concepts • Instead of teaching Foundations as a separate curriculum…One Middle School English Teacher had students apply the concepts of responsibility, authority, justice, and privacy to a book they were reading. • As a culminating activity, Happy Valley Middle School students had to apply concepts and create an imaginary place with a government, constitution, and laws for the people living there. Students then had to present their presentation.

  6. Learning from Local Elected Officials Students at Happy Valley Elementary learn about being a good citizen. The role of a good citizen is to participate in government. Being informed citizens and voting helps keep government strong.
