  2. Definitions • As a non-profit organization, our intent is to assist the the Uinta National Forest with developing recreational accommodations, capable of generating revenue from park visitors. • A Yurt is a round dwelling used by the nomadic people of Russia and Mongolia, because they are strong and portable. • A Yurt can be constructed for a cost of $10k - $40k. • A Yurt can be rented for $75 - $150 a day during peak times.

  3. Project Objectives • Finding viable locations for 5 new Yurts in the Uinta NF. • Minimize travel distances from roads and trails. • Use gradual slopes to reduce construction difficulties. • Locate areas above the snow line for recreation. • Avoid rivers and lakes by a minimum distance. • Avoid areas of hazard or exposure.

  6. GIS Progression

  7. Conclusions Initial GIS analysis yielded several hundred matching polygons, ranging in size from less than a 1 foot up to 1/5 of a square mile. Reducing these selections for further review, we chose the 15 largest areas for closer evaluation. These areas provided broader allowances for the small yurt locations. Based upon a winter hiking distance, we located our proposed yurts 5-10 miles apart from each other. Our analysis and maps provide possible spatial arrangements for the 5 defined yurts with location alternatives as well.
