Project Jackson: A Cautionary Tale on TIFs and Local Government Development Tactics

This report examines Project Jackson in North Augusta, illustrating how local governments utilize Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to bypass voter opposition and allocate public funds for questionable developments. The project features a proposed stadium and surrounding commercial facilities, funded largely through increased property taxes in designated 'blighted' areas. Initially aimed at revitalizing economically challenged regions, TIFs have been repurposed, raising concerns about transparency and accountability. We explore the true impact on taxpayers and the future of community-driven development.
