  2. Scrubland • Major scrublands can be found in the area around the Mediterranean, south west coast of South America and Southern California and Mexico

  3. Scrublands • Climate: Occurs where there are wet mild winters and long dry summers.

  4. Scrublands • Fires are common in summer months when plants are dry. • Fast moving fires make life difficult. • Plants and animals of the scrublands have adapted to deal with fire.

  5. Scrublands • Many plant’s seeds are aided by fire • Many animals seek the shelter of holes to escape fast moving fire

  6. Scrubland Producers • Low growing trees and shrubs with hard thick evergreen leaves, some grasses, evergreen oak, junipers and wild rose

  8. Scrubland Consumers • All Scrubland Consumers are adapted to harsh scrubland conditions. • Due to the conditions no real “large” consumers. • Small grazing mammals, rodents, fox, coyote, birds of prey
