  2. This presentation will cover • Update on mapping access land in England • Local access restrictions • Local access management • What is in CROW Part I for AONBs?

  3. Mapping access land • Statutory maps show mountain, moor, heath, down and registered common land • Add to these – land dedicated under s 16 • Subtract – s 15 land and excepted land • Agency website maps • OS maps – content being discussed

  4. Mapping Programme NB: This timetable will permit England-wide commencement by 2005 Mapping Area boundaries based on National Park and LA boundaries, but modified to accommodate physical extents of contiguous open country or registered common land.

LOCAL ACCESS RESTRICTIONS • Discretionary ’28 day’ restrictions • Discretionary dog controls • Directions – for land management, fire, safety, nature conservation, heritage preservation, defence • Consult LAFs on proposed long-term restrictions • Restrictions shown on a national website • Open for business – 7 months before commencement

  6. Local access management • Local Access Forums – consulted on • draft maps • proposed long-term restrictions • byelaws and wardens (if required) • RoW Improvement plans • others ……

  7. (Local access management) • Access authorities (NPA or local highway authority) have powers to • make byelaws; • appoint wardens; • erect and maintain notices; and • improve means of access.
