  2. County Unit System • Typically + pop= + reps=+ political power • In Ga., Democratic party in exclusive power • Traditionally, urban areas ran politics in GA why? + pop=+ reps=+political power

  3. Problem w/traditional politics • Rural areas lacked high political power • Solution: base county unit votes on population of county/district • 8 large/most populated districts get 6 unit votes • 30 medium populated districts get 4 unit votes • 121 small populated districts get 2 unit votes

  6. WW1 • Background info: • European countries goal was + land; +land =+ power; therefore, leaders must invade and conquer other lands • Germany was competing with Russia and France to expand their armies

  7. Alliances By 1914 all the major powers were linked by a system of alliances. The alliances made it more likely that a war would start. Once started, the alliances made it more likely to spread.

  8. Imperialism • All the great powers were competing for colonies / territory. • The British feared Germany in Africa. • The Austrians feared Serbia / Russia in the Balkans
