Poverty in Developing Countries • Almost half the world – over 3 billion people – live on less than $2.50 a day • The GDP of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s richest people combined • Women and children are the most vulnerable to issues of poverty • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to a reasonable standard of living – we need to help make sure that people have the access to basic needs that we do in Canada
