  1. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following. 1 Timothy 4:6

  2. Rejecting The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible The book, called the Bible, is filled with passages equally horrible, unjust and atrocious.  This is the book to be read in schools in order to make our children loving, kind and gentle!  Robert G. Ingersoll, The Gods

  3. Rejecting The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible The Bible was a collection of books written at different times by different men - - a strange mixture of diverse human documents - and a tissue of irreconcilable notions. Inspired?  The Bible is not even intelligent.  It is not even good craftsmanship, but is full of absurdities and contradictions.  E. Haldeman-Julius The Meaning Of Atheism

  4. Rejecting The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible "The Bible looks like it started out as a game of Mad Libs."

  5. Why is the Bible Rejected? • Don’t believe in God • Take a simple-minded approach to the Bible • Have unanswered questions • Engaged in THE spiritual battle

  6. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible The Bible is no mere book, but a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it. Napoleon Bonaparte

  7. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. . . I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year. John Quincy Adams

  8. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible The New Testament is the very best book that ever was or ever will be known in the world. Charles Dickens

  9. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible 1. It starts with God . . . Would He communicate? Could He communicate? 2. Uniqueness of the Bible 1500 years • Over 40 authors • Hundreds of controversial topics

  10. The Christ-Centered Life and the Bible 3. Historical Accuracy of the Bible Life of Christ (particularly) 4. Jesus’ View of the Bible What did He say about the Bible? How did he use the Bible?

  11. Jesus and the Scriptures Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Now about the dead rising— have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!” Mark 12:24-27

  12. Jesus and the Scriptures “Scripture cannot be broken.” John 10:35 “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18

  13. Six Truths about the Bible Christians adopt the view of the Bible that Jesus held. Jesus taught that the Bible was accurate and authoritative. Jesus criticized the religious leaders for their lack of knowledge of the Bible and faith in God. What is true in the Bible will also found to be true in history, science, human relationships, etc. The Bible is the world’s most influential book. “All Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16).

  14. Take a Step ASK 1. How would I evaluate the significance of God’s Word in my life? -a duty? -an academic exercise? -an infrequent read? -a non-existent influence? -a source of nourishment and encouragement? 2. How well do I know God’s Word and how to teach and communicate God’s truth? God reveals Himself to us through His Word. He wants us to know Him, His promises and His love. He wants us to understand His plans and His ways.

  15. Take a Step ACT My time with my Father will reflect how much I understand who He is. Today, I will decide to hear God’s voice every day through His Word. Today, I will decide on the plan I will follow daily to get into God’s Word. I need nourishment and strength every day. I cannot be profoundly influenced by what I do not know.
