Starting Photoshop • Start Photoshop as described on pages PS 6 and PS 7 • Choose the Default Workspace as described on page PS 8 • Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) on the tools palette and then reset all tools as described on pages PS 9 and PS 10 Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

Resetting the Layers Palette • Click the Layers palette menu button and then click Palette Options on the list • When Photoshop displays the Layers Palette Options dialog box, click the option button corresponding to the smallest of the thumbnail sizes • If necessary, click the Layer Bounds option button • Click the OK button Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  7. Resetting the Colors • If black over white are not shown as the default colors on the Tools palette, press the D key on the keyboard. If necessary, press x to invert the colors Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

Creating a File from Scratch • Click File on the menu bar, and then click New • When the New dialog box is displayed, type Recital Graphic in the Name box • If necessary, click the Preset box arrow, and then click Custom in the list • Double-click the Width box and then type 5.5 as the entry • Click the Width unit box arrow, and then click inches in the list, if necessary Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  9. Creating a File from Scratch • Double-click the Height box and then type 8.5 as the entry • Double-click the Resolution box and then type 300 as the entry. If necessary, click the Resolution unit box arrow, and then click pixels/inches in the list • Click the Color Mode box arrow • Click CMYK Color in the list. If necessary, click the Color Mode unit box arrow and then click 8 bit in the list Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  10. Creating a File from Scratch • If necessary, click the Background Contents box arrow, and then click White in the list • Click the OK button. On the document window status bar, double-click the magnification box, type 20 and then press the ENTER key. Saving the File • With your USB flash drive connected to one of the computer’s USB ports, click File on the menu bar and then click Save As • Click the Save in box arrow and then click USB (F:), or the location associated with your USB flash drive, in the list • If necessary, click the Format box arrow, and then click Photoshop (*.PSD, *.PDD) in the list • Click the Save button in the Save As dialog box Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  13. Using the Gradient Editor • Press the G key to access the Gradient tool. If necessary, right-click the Paint Bucket Tool (G) button and then click Gradient Tool in the list • On the Gradient options bar, click the Gradient Editor box • If necessary when the Gradient Editor dialog box opens, click the Gradient Type box arrow and then click Solid in the list. Selecting a Stop Color • In the Gradient Editor dialog box, double-click the left Color Stop button • Click at the top of the color slider and then click in the upper-right portion of the color field, to choose the brightest red • Click the OK button in the Select stop color dialog box • Double-click the right Color Stop button Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  20. Opening the Music File • Insert the CD that accompanies this book into your CD drive. After a few seconds, if Windows displays a dialog box, click its Clos button • In the Photoshop window, click File on the menu bar and then click Open. Navigate to the Chapter04 folder, and then double-click the file named Music • When Photoshop displays the image in the document window, double-click • the magnification box on the document window status bar, type 20, and then press the ENTER key • Drag the window to the lower-right portion of the workspace Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

Creating a Layer • With the Music window active, press CTRL+A to select the entire graphic • Click the Move Tool (V) button on the Tools palette • Drag the selection to the upper portion of the Recital Graphic window • Click the Close button on the Music window title bar Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  23. Creating a Layer • In the Layers palette, double-click the name Layer 1, and then type music as the name. Press the ENTER key to complete the name change • Right-click the Eraser tool and then click Magic Eraser Tool on the context menu • On the Magic Eraser options bar, if necessary, click the Contiguous check box so it does not display a check mark • In the document window, click the white area of the layer Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  25. Warping a Layer • Press CTRL+T to display the Transform options bar. On the options bar, click the Switch between free transform and warp modes button • When Photoshop displays the warp grid, drag the upper-left sizing handle slightly up and to the left • On the top edge of the bounding box, drag the right-center sizing handle slightly down • Drag the lower-right sizing handle down to a point approximately halfway down the image, as shown in Figure 4-22 on the next slide • Press the ENTER key to commit the transformation Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  27. Opening the Piano File • Insert the CD that accompanies this book into your CD drive. After a few seconds, if Windows displays a dialog box, click its Close button • In the Photoshop window, click File on the menu bar and then click Open. Navigate to the Chapter04 folder, and then double-click the file named Piano • When Photoshop displays the image in the document window, double-click the magnification box on the document window status bar, type 20 as the entry, and then press the ENTER key • Drag the window to the upper-right portion of the workspace. Creating the Piano Layer • With the Piano window active, press CTRL+A to select the entire graphic • Click the Move Tool (V) button on the Tools palette • Drag the selection to the lower-right portion of the Recital Graphic window. The piano legs should display close to the bottom margin. The body of the piano should display close to the right margin. Press the ENTER key to complete the name change • Click the Magic Eraser tool • On the Magic Eraser options bar, click the Contiguous check box so it displays a check mark • In the document window, click each white area in the layer.   34. Using the Brush Preset Picker • Press the B key to access the brush tools. If necessary, right-click the current brush button and then click Brush Tool in the list • On the Brush options bar, click the Brush Preset picker button • Drag the Master Diameter slider to 50 • Drag the Hardness slider to 100 Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

Drawing Straight Lines with the Brush Tool • In the Layers palette, click the Background layer • In the document window, drag from the horizontal ruler down to the 6.5 inch mark on the vertical ruler • Drag from the horizontal ruler again, to the 7.5 inch mark on the vertical ruler • Increase the magnification to 50%. Drawing Straight Lines with the Brush Tool • To create the I of the Roman numeral, with the Brush tool still selected, SHIFT+drag close to the left side of the document window, beginning at the upper ruler guide and ending at the lower ruler guide • To position the upper-left corner of the Roman numeral V, move the mouse close to the upper ruler guide and just to the right of the previous brush stroke. • Click the document window • To position the bottom of the Roman numeral V, move the mouse down and slightly to the right of the previous click, just above the lower ruler guide Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  40. Selecting a Color Using the Eyedropper Tool • Decrease the magnification to 20% to view the entire document • Press the I key to access the Eyedropper tool. If necessary, right-click the current color sample tool, and then click Eyedropper Tool in the list • Move the mouse to a position inside the piano string assembly • Position the tip of the eyedropper on a gold color in the string assembly and then click Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  42. Using the Brushes Palette • Press the B key to access the Brush tool. If necessary, right-click the current tool and then click Brush Tool in the list. On the Brush options bar, click the Toggle the Brushes palette button • If necessary, click the Brush Presets button • Scroll down in the list and click the Flowing Stars preset. Using the Brush Tool with a Flowing Stars Stroke • In the Layers palette, click the piano layer • Using short strokes, drag short curved lines from the inside of the piano, up and over the music stand. Click to make individual stars. Double-click to make some stars brighter • Continue the stars up toward the music graphic and the left side of the document window, as shown on the following slide Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color

  49. Creating a Shape Using the Elliptical Marquee • Press SHIFT+CTRL+N to create a new layer. When the New Layer dialog box is displayed, type first note to rename the layer. Click the OK button • Press the M key to choose the marquee tools. If necessary, right click the current marquee tool and then click Elliptical Marquee Tool in the list • If necessary, on the options bar click the New selection button. If necessary, click the Anti- Alias check box so it displays a check mark • Move the mouse pointer into the document window slightly to the left of the piano lid, approximately halfway between the bottom and top of the lid • Drag the mouse to draw an elliptical marquee across the edge of the piano lid, approximately 1 inch wide and .5 inches tall Chapter 4: Drawing and Painting with Color
