  1. Conquering The Toilet – Our Roadmap

  2. Why Toilet? Toilet is a subject that affects the life of all human being. Yet, it remains a 'taboo' almost everywhere. In most cultures, it is considered impolite or improper to discuss the subject. As such, toilet problems continue without solutions, because if you can't talk about it, you can't improve it.

  3. Who is World Toilet Organization (WTO) ? Restroom Associations of Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam, decided to form the World Toilet Organization, with an eventual aim of having members in every part of the globe.During the World Toilet Summit in Nov 2001,  "The Singapore Declaration For Future Toilet Action", was signed by 15 World Toilet Organization members.(see attached Declaration). This Declaration forms the basis and sets the direction of our global effort hereafter.

  9. >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen The objectives of www.worldtoilet.org are:(continued) National PrideMr Gerard Ee said our World Toilet Organization's effort has "Put Singapore on the World Map" And in the words of Mr Daniel Wang, "We can fly our flag high" We are proud that we have done both and want to do much more. We feel as if we are winning an Olympic Medal in Social Work.

  10. Strengths >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • Negligible Advertising Dollars Because of its taboo nature, the subject became 'sexy' to journalist and has been widely published recently. • Low Operating Costs Enjoy a worldwide network of 'offices’ (in the form of local toilet associations) who are self-motivated to promote the subject. • Virtual Monopoly There is no second set of toilet associations network in the world. Therefore, we can work at our pace and link every toilet related sites to us without fear of competition.

  11. Strengths >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • Website Stickiness People will come because: 1) The subject affects them in their daily life 2) They want their views or ‘Voices’ to be heard on the subject 3) The awesome effect of discovering the facts of this subject leads people to share this knowledge by word-of-mouth 4) Good toilet humour on WTO portal.

  12. Strengths >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • Content RichWTO portal has a huge diversity of contents that includes: - wide collections of White Papers, survey results, etc. - demographics reports - ‘Know-How’ information (i.e. cleaning technology, design solutions, sewage treatments, sanitation management) - Product evaluations, information and applicationsRich multimedia contents like: - 3D Product Showcase - streaming video clips - interactive manuals - online ‘live’ seminars and conferences, etc.

  13. Strengths >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • High Profile EndorsementsJapan Toilet association has been working 16 years now with toilets education and all our activities are supported by the United Nation agencies such as UNEP, UNCHS, WHO, UNICEF, etc. Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affair is happy to give foreign aid to poor countries to build their toilets.

  17. Weaknesses >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • “New” Subject - Toilet is still a 'new' subject and much work is needed to educate even an ordinary person on its importance. - People have grown so accustom to their inconveniences and sufferings that they developed a natural avoidance of the subject. However, once they realised the message, they will become motivated. • Lack of Certain Resources Coordinating a World organisation requires great resources and energy. We need to continuously generate enthusiasm and recruit resources in order to succeed.

  18. Opportunities >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen Singapore is able to seize the opportunity to host this portal because: • We won the hearts of the international toilet fraternity through our genuine, selfless and diligent effort to build this organization. • Singapore took the initiative before others did. There is no World Body for toilet. • Singapore won the bid to host the first World Toilet Summit 2001. • English is the common language in Singapore but not in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. • We are proud to make Singapore the driver in this movement.

  19. Threat >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • The structure of World Toilet Organisation is an informal one. This is to avoid hierarchy and power struggle. It will be an organisation by performance instead of by registration. • Solution:Professor Tommy Koh has introduced us to: 1. ASEAN Secretariat, Mr Rob Severino 2. P.A., Mr Ong Keng Yong 3. UN-ESCAP, Mr Kim Hak-Soo 4. UNEP, Mr Klaus ToepferUNEP was very please with our 'holistic' approach to Toilet issues.

Social Values >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • Worldwide Coordinated Efforts and Sharing Initiative • Promote Awareness and Voluntary Efforts • Establish Good Relationships between Countries • Facilitate and Accelerate sharing, R&D of Technology to Create Innovative Solutions • Cultivating hygiene-conscientious values in Singaporeans and become the ‘Capital’ to promote this particular aspect of civilization

  21. Commercial Values - Holistic Approach >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • While the portal devotes its main attention on Social customers, we are conscious of the necessity of industrial and commercial customers as well.

  22. Commercial Values - Holistic Approach >> Scope of Project << Splash Screen • However, the 'care' can only be complete with application of actual products and services from vendors, thus coming full circle with both social and commercial goals. • This Holistic approach is more effective because there is a natural interface between products and solutions.
