  2. Introduction • PAN L10n project is a collaboration of 11 country partners • Each country is producing licensable material • Linguistic Resources • Software • Aim of the project is to develop technology for the benefit of common person • Funded through Canadian public funding

Types of Linguistic Resources • Corpora • Monolingual Text • Parallel Text • Annotated Text: POS, Word Break • Spelling Error Corpora • Speech : Annotated with POS and Pronunciation • Script Corpora for OCR • Computational Lexica • Corpus based word lists • Dictionary based word lists • Annotated lexica: POS, Pronunciation, Meaning

  4. Types of Software/Applications • Fonts • Keyboards • Word Segmenters • Spelling Checkers • Sorting Utilities • Encoding Converters • Corpus Cleaning Tools • POS Taggers • Computational Lexica • OCRs • TTSs

  5. Languages of Resources • Pashto • Bangla • Dzongkha • Tibetan • Khmer • Bahasa Indonesia • Lao • Mongolia • Nepali • Sinhala • Tamil • Urdu • …

Licensing and Distribution • For individual projects • Rights owned by the organization producing the resource or software • Copy must be available for non-commercial use publically, open source and free of charge • Commercial rights to be exploited by the producing organization, as long as they do not conflict with Point 2. above

Licensing and Distribution • For joint projects • Rights equally shared by the organizations producing the resource or software • Copy must be available for non-commercial use publically, open source and free of charge • Commercial rights to be exploited jointly by the producing organizations, as long as they do not conflict with Point 2. above

  8. Licensing and Distribution • Licensing for Resources • Creative Commons • Licensing for Software • GPL • Free for s/w developed on MS platform

Licensing and Distribution • Though Phase 1 did not allow possibility of commercialization, Phase 2 allows for the possibility by the organization(s) producing the resource and software • However licensing from original sources not cleared by partners • Commercialization added to Phase 2 to explore sustainability of the research

  10. Licensing and Distribution • Currently Resources are available at www.PANL10n.net website and project partners • But PAN L10n is not a Resource Distribution Agency! How do we distribute in the longer-term? • Resources • IJCNLP? • ALRN? • LDC? • Software??? • What would be the license?
