  3. Your Digital PersonaPositives and Negatives • Google Yourself. What do you find? Make sure to check “images” and “videos” • Facebook/Twitter/Social Media—what “face” have you put forward? • YouTube—what videos have you created? Liked? Appeared in?

  4. Make sure there are NO: • Photographs with questionable content, gestures, locations, clothing • Status updates, tweets, or comments with graphic, profane, racist, sexist, or derogatory denotation or connotation • What you thought was “funny” does not translate in the business world. • Always err on the side of conservitivism • Political or religious support or condemnation • “likes” or links to questionable content

  5. Make sure you DO HAVE • Evidence of your talents—if you are applying for a singing position, employers will look you up on YouTube • A professional email address • A well crafted and proofed digital resume • Professional Voicemail message • Social media sites that are locked at the highest “privacy” setting • References with impeccable ethos

  6. Your Email Persona DO: Include part of your name HFoote0429@webhost.com Keep references scholarly Iluvtoread247@webhost.com H2OPoloStar56@webhost.com DON'T: Include inappropriate references Sexy4Utoday@webhost.com BeerMe15648@webhost.com 420Fun2Day@webhost.com

  7. Your Telephone persona Phone Number--Cell or Home? Who will answer? HOW to answer... Message-- Name, request message, Closing YES: "Hello, you have reached Marcus Jones. I am sorry that I have missed your call. Please leave your name, number, and a brief message and I will return your call as soon as possible.“ NO: "Hey, its your bro Maaarcuuus! Leave it at the beep!" NO: Music NO: Funny movie quotes or jokes

  8. Responses: • Same Day • Same Format—email=email, phone=phone • NO TEXT RESPONSES. • Be prepared with available times to meet for an interview • Talk with a pencil in hand • Take note of the speaker’s NAME, and thank them by NAME when you close the conversation • EDIT your emails before sending. Twice. • Make sure your email is properly formatted with a subject title, greeting, and your full name and contact information in the closing.

  9. DO NOT: • Ask about pay or salary • Ask about time off or vacation • Ask about perks • EVER bad-mouth any former boss, teacher, or coworker—no one wants to hire someone mean spirited • Use intimate or private voice—Always use the public voice in interviews, resumes, emails, and conversations

  10. Your Resume • Save in multiple formats--.doc, .docx, .pdf (you can do this in the “save as” tab of Word) • Have at least two other people read and proof it for errors…any resumes with spelling or grammar mistakes end up in the trash • Formatted correctly, with all pertinent information—use a resume building site • Tailor each resume to the job you are applying for: your Target resume should be different than your daycare resume.
