  2. Wants versus Needs Both these pictures were taken on the same day, one was during the London street riots and the other was during the Edinburgh Festival. How do we make the difference? In the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child A right is what you need. Rights are not license or taking whatever you want regardless of the effect on others.

  3. Rights Respecting School Award • Why should we do it? • The Rights of the UNCRC are what every child needs . • What has that to do with me? • -Everybody’s responsibility is to help every child get what they need and for everybody to understand the difference between needs and the potentially destructive materialism of wants. • Who Says? • -The United Nations and all of the 192 countries who signed the UNCRC including Scotland. • (You are a child from birth until your 18th birthday)

  4. Rights Respecting School Award • Share the values of Rights to work and live more effectively as a team that includes students and teachers, parents, community, government. • Have your say in how to benefit more from your education (articles 12 and 29). • Use a shared understanding of Rights to be a better student / teacher / parent/ and Legislator.
