  3. Immigration • Both families came in the fourth wave of immigration • The Contreras family emigrated from Tijuana B.C. Mexico to California • The Urita family emigrated from Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico to California • The Urita family did emigrate from Mexico by feet going through desert and different climates

  4. Push Factors • Both families came to California to find a job and stay close to their land • When they got to California they found a job in the Kool-Aid Company (primary sector) • Got paid low wage which was difficult to afford things

  5. Settlement • The Contreras family settled in a apartment • The Urita family settled in a complex • Both families had difficulty in paying rent and affording for food and household items • They had to eat rice, beans and tortillas for several months until they settled in • Today, the Contreras family lives in California and the Urita family returned to Mexico

  6. Racial Segregation • Education was difficult because Hispanics were not allowed to go to school with the Whites • Discrimination was high against the Hispanics • Jobs were low wage for Hispanic people

  7. Religion • The Contreras family were Mormons since decades • The Urita family were Catholic since decades • The Contreras family preached to the Urita family and got them to join the Mormon church • Today, both families are Mormon

  8. Conclusion • I Learned more bout my ancestry and family • I Learned many new things of this course 11 days ago
