The importance of “faith” • For by grace you have been SAVEDthroughfaith, & that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God (Eph 2:8). • For you are all SONS OF GODthroughfaith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ(Gal 3:26-27). • Therefore, having been JUSTIFIEDbyfaith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 5:1).

  3. Bible usage of “faith” • To believe facts • James 2:19; Luke 6:46 • The gospel (New Testament) • Ephesians 4:4-5; Jude 3 • A personal faith • Hebrews 11:6

  4. What kind of “faith” is yours? • INHERITED • Beliefs passed down from our family or peers • Saul of Tarsus inherited a faith from his peers that did him no good • Acts 23:1; 26:9; 7:58-8:1

  5. What kind of “faith” is yours? • INDOCTRINATED • Beliefs we gain from being taught: • May be incomplete • 1 Peter 1:6-7 • Or incorrect • Romans 10:2-3; Acts 26:5-9

  6. What kind of “faith” is yours? • INQUISITIVE • Beliefs we willingly subject to truth • Hebrews 11:6; John 17:17 • Distinguishes God’s word from human doctrines and tradition • Acts 17:11; John 5:39; Isaiah 8:20; 34:16; 1 John 4:1, 6

  7. What kind of “faith” is yours? • GENUINE (SINCERE) • Beliefs we gain through personal study • 2 Timothy 1:5; 1 Timothy 1:5; Romans 10:17

GENUINE (SINCERE) FAITH • 2 Tim 1:5 – when I call to remembrance the genuine [kjv, unfeigned: without hypocrisy] faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois & your mother Eunice, & I am persuaded is in you also. • 1 Tim 1:5 – Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, & from sincere [same Greek] faith.

  9. What kind of “faith” is yours? • GENUINE (SINCERE) • Beliefs we accept on the basis of Truth • “So then faith comes by hearing…the word of God” (Rom 10:17) • “Sanctify them [disciples] by Thy Truth, Thy Word is Truth” (John 17:17).
