  1. “Brian Wilson” Drove downtown in the rain nine-thirty on a Tuesday night, just to check out the late-night record shop.Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane;but when I'm surrounded I just can't stop. It's a matter of instinct, it's a matter of conditioning,It's a matter of fact. You can call me Pavlov's dogRing a bell and I'll salivate- how'd you like that?Dr. Landy tell me you're not just a pedagogue, cause right now I'm [Chorus]Lying in bed just like Brian Wilson didWell I'm lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did.So I'm lying here, just starting at the ceiling tiles.and I'm thinking about what to think about.Just listening and relistening to Smiley Smile, and I'm wondering if this is some kind of creative droughtbecause I am Words & music by Steven Page

  2. Classical Conditioning • Neutral Stimulus (NS): something that would ordinarily not produce the reflex response of interest • Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS): something that produces a reflex response without learning • Unconditioned Response (UCR): the reflex response that is elicited by the UCS

  3. Classical Conditioning (cont.) • Conditioned Stimulus (CS): a formerly neutral stimulus, that through learning, elicits a reflex response • Conditioned Response (CR): a reflex response elicited by the CS • Generalization: when a neutral stimulus similar to the CS elicits a CR without being paired with the UCS

  4. I'm feeling so tired, can't understand it Just had a fortnights sleepI'm feeling so tired, Ow!, so distracted Ain't touched a thing all weekI'm feeling drunk, juiced up and sloppyAin't touched a drink all nightFeeling hungry, can't see the reasonJust had a horse meat pieYeah when you call my nameI salivate like a Pavlov dog Yeah when you lay me outMy heart starts beating like a big bass drum, alrightYeah you got to mix it childYa got to fix it must be loveIt's a b*tch You got to mix it childYa got to fix it must be love It's a b*tch allrightSometimes I'm sexy, move like a studKicking the stall all nightSometimes I'm so shy, got to be worked on Don't have no bark or biteYeah when you call my nameI salivate like a Pavlov dog Yeah when you lay me out My heart starts beating like a big bass drum

  5. Classical Conditioning (cont.) • Discrimination: when a neutral stimulus similar, but different enough, to the CS does NOT elicit a CR • Extinction: when a CS no longer elicits a CR because … • it was no longer paired with the UCS • Spontaneous Recovery: after extinction has taken place, and without any pairings with the UCS, the CS elicits a CR

  6. Oh, Mario,Sit here by the window;Stay here 'til we reach Idaho,And when we go, hold my hand on take-off.Tell me what I already know:That we can't talk about it.No, we can't talk about it.Because nobody knows, that's how I nearly fell, trading clothesand ringing Pavlov's Bell.History showsthere's not a chance in hell. But, oh, Mario, we're only to Ohio. It's kinda getting harder to breathe.I won't let it show,I'm all about denialBut can't denial let me believe Pavlov's Bell Aimee Mann

  7. That we could talk about it? But we can't talk about itBecause nobody knows, that's how I nearly fell, trading clothes and ringing Pavlov's Bell.History shows but rarely shows it well.Well, well, wellOh, Mario, why if this is nothing,I'm finding it's so hard to dismiss. If you're what I need, then only you can save me,so come on baby give me the fixand let's just talk about it.I've got to talk about it.Because nobody knows.that's how I nearly fell, trading clothesand ringing Pavlov's Bell.History shows
