  3. Introductory Course on Field Epidemiology • It was first designed for the trainees in the FETP • Extended to include public health professionals who interested in epidemiology • International course for the public health professionals in the South East Asian region

Who are the participants? • 2-year training program • 11 Thai trainees (9 physicians, 2 vet) • 4 Inter trainees; China (2), Cambodia(2) • One-month introductory course • 7 Thai doctors & public health professional • 12 from Brunei, Cambodia, China (Yunnan), Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam 34 participants

  5. Field Epidemiology Training Program(FETP) in Thailand • Began in 1980 • 27th year of the program • 3rd country after USA and Canada • International program started in 1998 • 9th year of the international program

  6. Why is the Introductory course? • Providing a basic concept of field epidemiology and public heath (with some biostatistics) • Building the network of public health professionals in Thailand and international

  7. What will you learn in the Introductory course? Main topics • Surveillance and outbreak investigation • Epidemiological study designs and biostatistic • Public health related issue • Group exercise (Problem-based) Pre-test and Post-test (25 questions)

  8. Level of difficulty • Basic to moderate level in epidemiology • Introductory in biostatistics • New topic: simulation model

  9. Daily activities in the next 4 weeks • 8.30-9.00 A.M. - Review session • 1-2 persons/day • Summary of yesterday session • 9.00 A.M.-12.00 P.M. - Lecture • Introduce lecturers/guest speakers (with acknowledgment at the end of session) • 1.30-4.30 P.M. - Exercise/Lecture
