WHY CERTIFY BUS OPERATORS • Professional designation has significant value • Similar designations exist in other industries (e.g. Mechanics’ Red Seal program) • Recognition of operators’ professionalism and commitment • Helps improve perception of bus operators as competent professionals with proven skills • Logical extension of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Best Practices • Sets professional tone for the “next generation” of bus operators 2

WHY ACCREDIT TRAINING PROGRAMS • Positions bus industry as professional, competent, and employing best practices • Validates industry efforts to improve itself and raise standards and best practices • Awareness within the industry of the need for on-going professional learning • Canada-wide standardization of trainingscope and content for professional bus operators • Formal recognition of licensed bus operators through demonstrated knowledge, experience and abilities evaluated using the National Occupational Standards 3

PROGRAM GOALS AND SCOPE • Training providers commit to NOS as benchmark • Ensure access to training by developing Accredited sites • Elevate pride and professional recognition within industry and gaining respect with outside audiences • Both accreditation and certification are voluntary • Accreditation to be awarded to programs that cover NOS and “benchmark curriculum” • Certification based on the NOS and combines experience, knowledge, and skill attainment 5

ACCREDITATION STEPS • Training provider accesses Application Package • Applicant self-assesses Training Program against the NOS & Benchmark Curriculum criteria • Applicant forwards Application Form and Training Declaration attaching all required documentation to the MCPCC • Applicant submission assessed by Accreditation and Certification (AC) Board and notified of results by the MCPCC 6

CERTIFICATION CRITERIA • Validated knowledge, skills and abilities using National Occupational Standards (NOS) • 3 years bus operator experience within a consecutive or concurrent five-year period including the year of application OR • For specialized active bus operations personnel (e.g. trainers, managers, supervisors, safety, labour representatives) three (3) years career bus operator experience and must be on the road 80% of the time • Have agreed to abide by the MCPCC Code of Ethics for Professional Bus Operator practice 7

  8. CERTIFICATION STEPS ACCREDITED COMPANY SPONSORED APPLICATIONS • Company registers one or more Evaluators • Completes and submits the Accredited Company Declaration Form • Submits an on-line list of Candidates for Certification 8

  9. CERTIFICATION STEPS INDIVIDUAL APPLICATIONS • Operator accesses Application package • Applicant completes Application Form, required documentation, fee and Certification Journal and forwards to MCPCC • Application assessed by the AC Board • Results communicated to applicant by MCPCC 9

  10. CERTIFICATION REVOCATION • Loss of driving license • Criminal conviction • Substantiated flagrant or repetitive driving infractions suggesting an unfavourable pattern of driving performance • Non-compliance with Code of Ethics • Non-payment of any required fees 10
