  1. Zahahadid By Sarah Mejia

  2. About zahahadid • Born in Baghdad Iraq on October 31st 1950 • mathematics degree at the American University of Beirut • Studied at Architectural Association school of architecture in London • professor at University of Applied Arts Vienna in Austria • In 2004 she was the first female recipient to win the Pritzker Prize • "a living architect whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision and commitment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture"

  3. her inspiration/Style • "My father took us to see the Sumerian cities. Then we went by boat, and then on a smaller one made of reeds, to visit villages in the marshes. The beauty of the landscape—where sand, water, reeds, birds, buildings, and people all somehow flowed together—has never left me. I'm trying to discover—invent, I suppose—an architecture, and forms of urban planning, that do something of the same thing in a contemporary way.” • She says her architecture expresses and sense of motion like “ a controlled explosion it is concerned with composing intersecting paths, routes and volumes in forms that are dynamic rather than static.” • She doesn't use rule filled modernism in her architecture: walls ,ceilings, front and back and right angles • Instead she uses multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry to symbolize the chaotic fluidity in modern life

  4. the Vitra fire station It has lots of polygons and triangles that slash through the space around them ,that creates movement

  5. Phaeno Science Center The supporting very large angled columns that are intended to let it become part of the ‘urban fabric’. And the distorted shape was chosen to imitate movement and transformation. It has broken compound angles with acute interstices
