  1. Basic Instruction:Creating the PresentationGetting Started with the Background Developed by:Cara L. ClarkVisual Information Specialist

  2. Step 1:Make sure “Auto Content Wizard” is selected so PowerPoint can set up your presentation automatically.

  3. Step 2:Click “OK”

  4. PowerPoint shows the outline of steps it will take you through to set up your slide presentation. Click “Next”

  5. There are more to choose from, but for now we will keep it simple. Select “Generic” for Type of Presentation. Click “Next”

  6. Select “Presentations...” Only select the “internet” if you are specifically creating a webpage. You can convert an existing slideshow for internet use later.

  7. Select “Presentations...” Click “Next”

  8. Select “On-screen presentation” Only select the other options if you are specifically creating a hardcopy presentation. You can convert to screen presentation later.

  9. Then Select “YES” for handouts.

  10. Click “Next”

  11. Enter the information for your title slide. Click “Next”

  12. Click “Finish”

  13. Now that you have finished the AutoContent Wizard, PowerPoint displays your pre-set outline of your presentation ready for you to edit.

  14. You can edit from this page but the best and easiest way to make changes and customize your presentation is from the“Slide View.”

  15. Under View Select Slide

  16. This is a more accurate view of your presentation. Now you can make changes.

  17. Select ViewAgain.

  18. Select Master then Slide Master.

  19. The Slide Master is used for things you want to appear automatically on each slide, such as backgrounds, art, and text.

  20. You are now in the Master Slide view. We can now make changes to the background appearance by using the “Common Tasks” dialog box.

  21. To access the “Common Tasks” select View

  22. Then select Common Tasks Select Toolbars

  23. Select Apply Design

  24. The Apply Design dialog box appears. Here you can choose from a variety of templates. Let’s choose Notebook. Then select Apply.

  25. This is Slide Master view of the background design for your presentation.

  26. NOTE!Don’t forget to switch back to Slide View to start creating slides. This is just for creating and editing background appearance.

  27. To return to Slide View select View then Slide.
