What is Touch • Touch defines boundaries with the environment. • The sense of touch is actually a combination of three skin senses: • Pressure • Temperature • Pain
Why Touch? • Touch is what makes a person interact both socially and physically with the external world. Touch is combined of a complex network of sensory signals that send signals to the brain that helps notify humans what they are touching, if it hot or cold, rough or soft and wet or dry.
Sill Not Convinced? The simplest processes in our daily life require us to use our sense of touch like brushing our teeth, showering, opening doors or shaking hands with people. Life without the feeling of touch will be meaningless, it's like when your fingers get numb and you can't feel them, I can't imagine that to be the whole of my body. After the numbness is gone everyone get that feeling of relief that they can feel things again.
Touch expresses not only how things feel but our interactions with other people. For example a handshake, a kiss, a pat on the back and a hug are all known as tactile social interaction. Life is hard without them because these different types of touching express how we feel about others for example hugging and handshakes shows that the relationship between the two people is friendship or they are both family. While on the other hand kissing on the lips shows that the two people are either dating, married, or engaged in some kind of sexual relationship.
