P3 & P4 STELLAR Programme • Upper primary students can look forward to more interactive English lessons with the implementation of the revised 2010 English Language (EL) Syllabus at Pri 4 from 2013. • The new syllabus aims to enable our students to communicate effectively and confidently and be well prepared for the next stage of learning • Pupils will sit for the revised Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) EL papers in 2015.

Awarding of marks for Semestral Assessments Important Notes: • Method marks are given for Sections B and C word problems • Take note that in Section C, in alignment to PSLE marking, noanswer mark is given for correct answer with no working. • It is not compulsory for pupils to draw models to solve word problems in exams. However, model drawing is an essential skill to master when the pupils progress to upper primary.

  40. P3 & P4 Maths Skills Tests • P3 & P4 pupils will be tested on problem solving skills (Heuristics) • For example, “Make a Systematic List”, “Guess & Check”, “Simplify a Problem”.

  41. P3 & P4 Maths Skills Test • The format of the P3 & P4 Maths Skills tests are the same. • Pupils will be required to solve 3-4 questions on Heuristics. • The duration of the test will be about ½ hour.

Sustained Support for Mathematics (SSM) Programme (P3 & P4) • Aims to engage learners in the learning and mastery of essential Mathematics concepts using well-researched pedagogical approaches. • Infused in daily lessons. • The worksheets for the various activities are given in the P3 and P4 YZPS SSM booklets.

  47. Heuristics Programme • Our school places great emphasis in building the problem solving skills of our pupils. • For Primary 3 & 4 pupils, they will be exposed to solving non-routine problems using heuristics throughout the four terms.

  48. Solve N Learn Portal • Pupils will be taught how to do problem posing by their class teachers. • Selected entries will be collated and published in “Solve N Learn” portal. • The “Solve N Learn” portal can be accessed via MC Online portal.
