Front Pre-crash Safety System • System uses an algorithm to map • the position of the driver’s facial features • and monitors the driver’s head movements • Lexus has implanted a CCD camera, which is mounted on top of the steering column with six built-in near-infrared lights that allow the system to work day and night (Lexus)

Front Pre-crash Safety Continue… • When the engine is started the system automatically plots the position of the driver’s facial features and measures the face • Enacts pre-crash warning buzzer, and briefly applies the breaks in warning of danger • Emergency breaking preparation and pre-tensioning of the front seatbelts (Lexus)

  6. Rear Pre-crash Safety System • Front seat will move up, and forwards to provide cushion for the driver , preventing whiplash • Does not operate if the seat is unoccupied (Lexus)

  7. Rear Pre-crash Safety Continue… • Rear-mounted miniature camera that constantly monitors the area around the back of the car • Sensors in headrest, measures the distance b/w the passenger’s head and headrest itself • Operates whether the car is stationary or moving (Lexus)

  8. Adaptive Front Lighting System • Turns the headlights to illuminate your way prior to turning the corner • Left beam can rotate 0-15 degrees, left • Right beam can rotate 0-15 degrees, right • Self-leveling feature for changing road conditions • On/off switch (Lexus USA)

Night View Simulation System • Uses infrared technology to illuminate everything in front of the vehicle up to 500 ft • Two lamps in the lower grille project light beams that reflect off objects in the vehicle’s path • Object bounces back to a camera mounted inside the top of the windshield (Lexus USA)

  10. Night View Simulation System Continue… • A Computer than processes the reflected beams into images that are projected onto the windshield in the driver’s field of visions (Lexus USA)

  11. Intuitive Parking Assist Simulation System • Front bumper fitted with ultrasonic sensors • As you approach the bumper, a pictograph appears on a plasma screen, rendering your location relative to the bumper (Lexus USA) • Warning sound from speakers, depending on where the obstacle is located
