  2. The Internal Revenue Service has opportunities for anyone interested in applying their skills to important work. • We will take a look at a few of these important jobs • We will provide an overview of the criteria for each one. • We will list some IRS resources for you to use.

  3. Accounting, Budget, Financeand Other Areas • Internal Revenue Agent • Engineers and Architects • Appeals Officer

  4. Taxpayer Assistance and Compliance Areas • Contact Representative • Tax Specialist • Tax Compliance Officer • Internal Revenue Officer

  5. Taxpayer Advocate Service Area • Case Advocate • Analyst • Local Taxpayer Advocate

  6. Internal Revenue Agent • For entry level, can be a college graduate with at least 30 hours of accounting courses. • Advanced opportunities are available if you have significant professional accounting experience. • US citizenship is required for all positions.

  7. Tax Compliance OfficerTax SpecialistContact representative • Entry level requires minimum number of accounting courses (6 to 12) and/or a combination of business, customer service, and other related experience and education. • Career ladder entry is Grade 5/7/9. • Senior Tax Specialist can go as high as Grade 13 with required education and experience.

  8. Internal Revenue Officer • Entry qualification requirements are either a bachelor’s degree in any subject or experience in and knowledge of investigative techniques, business practices, and/or delinquent loan collection processes. • R/O positions include a wide range of duties and tasks as a highly trained professional protecting the interests of the federal government and the tax-paying public.

  9. Case AdvocateAnalystLocal Taxpayer Advocate • Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) positions represent an independent voice within the IRS. There are a wide range of positions with duties and qualifications similar to other positions in the IRS that are focused on strong customer service skills, helping both individuals and businesses.

  10. Appeals Officer • Appeals Officers begin at the GS/11 and go up to GS/15 grade levels. Appeals Officers are drawn from a variety of other IRS functions. Some examples: • Enrolled ActuaryAppraiserCPA / AttorneyEnrolled Agent

  11. Engineers and Architects • This is an opportunity to combine engineering skills with a broad knowledge of tax law to provide high level technical advice to tax investigations. As a architect, opportunities exist to design, and direct the construction of new facilities across the nation.

  12. IRS RESOURCES FOR CAREER PLANNING • Career Pathing • Welcome to the Career Pathing subject area. Career pathing enables employees to manage their career progression to achieve their career goals. The Career Management Resource Center (CMRC) is a tool designed to assist the employee in developing their career plan in the IRS.
