  3. That’s right! Because last Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day which is a federal holiday celebrating his birthday.

  4. Who was Dr. King? • Civil Rights leader who lived from January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968 • Pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. • Member of the  National Association for the Advancement of Colored People • A leader of the Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955) • President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (1957) • Nobel Prize winner

  5. Important Facts: • During 1957- 1968, Dr. King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times in support of the Civil Rights Movement. • He was arrested close to twenty times and assaulted at least four times. • On April 4, 1968, Dr. King was assassinated while standing on a balcony outside his second-floor room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.
