  2. WG5 – Data Standards and Sharing • Purpose- To develop clear and consistent standards and procedures for the collection, access and sharing of data resources between the Boards and clients. WG5 – Data Sharing and Standards • Our goal is to develop the following products: • GIS Submission Guidelines • Document Submission Guidelines • Common LWB website, online registry and ledger • Shared GIS (Geographic Information System) • Electronic distribution tools and procedures • Standards for Water Use and SNP data reporting

WG5 – Data Sharing and Standards UPDATES: • GIS Submission Guidelines • Complete-1 Page document detailing the GIS/mapping expectations (ie.details and format) of applicants to the LWB (link) • Update of pre-existing (but largely ignored) MV Guidelines • Affects what an RO should consider when deeming an application complete • Spatial data collected enables detailed mapping of a specific project and of cumulative effects

WG5 – Data Sharing and Standards UPDATES: • Shared website, online registry and ledger • Website framework in place for 2 years plus (supported and hosted by MVLWB) (screenshots) • In full use by MVLWB/ WLWB. Recently adopted by SLWB (more training required). The GLWB have a basic registry online and have not yet moved towards a common site. • Recent discussion of joint project to update all websites to common look, feel and function (see new www.wlwb.ca) • Several other goals dependant on this one (electronic distribution, shared GIS, IMSs)

WG5 – Data Sharing and Standards UPDATES: • MVLWB / DFO Joint Water Withdrawals Database • Supports 2 WG5 goals Shared Online GIS and Standardized Water Use and SNP Data Reporting • MVLWB Database and web map of LUPs, WLs and watersources, complete with withdrawal, bathymetry and eventually water quality data • $37k invested by DFO, $22k software investment by WG • Contractor work progressing very slowly- technical and process diagrams complete, GIS tables built, data- loading and web map construction just begun • Web map should be ready for April 2011, water quality data could take years

WG5 – Moving Forward.. • Continued integration of websites, registries • Registry training, website content/ design updates • Online distribution / review processes • GIS improvements and integrations • GIS Training / contracting / internship • Water Quality / Water Use Data collection • Information Management Systems
